The client, located in Beijing, conducts technical research, services, leasing, and project management for its own computer hardware and software products. It is the Chinese headquarters of a Greek engineering simulation software system provider with its group headquarters in Switzerland, which is dedicated to developing state-of-the-art CAE software systems that meet the requirements of all simulation disciplines, providing professional and customized technical support and engineering services. The products include ANSA pre-processor, Epilysis solver, META post-processor, SPDRM simulation process data resource manager, RETOMO reverse engineering modeler for automatic generation of finite element models from physical objects, and more than ten others. The company has a world-leading share in many scientific fields such as automotive, aerospace, heavy industry, and medical devices, and has many well-known customers and partners. The group has 12 subsidiaries worldwide.
The content of the client's video involves the introduction of software functions, which requires high professionalism, and some of the original video sounds have serious accent problems. The previous language supplier of the client used two translators to complete the process of dictation and translation of the source language separately, which led to deviations when the translator responsible for the translation was detached from the video content to understand the software functions, resulting in the translation accuracy not meeting the requirements. In contrast, our company used the same senior translator who was familiar with the software functions in the video to complete both the dictation and translation processes, and his familiarity with the content of the video also improved the efficiency of the later translation of the video transcription, and the accuracy of the translation was higher while the cost was controlled at a lower range than the client's previous supplier
Challenges
1 The client provided a URL during the quotation stage to extract the videos
that needed to be translated (which contained no sound and Chinese videos without translation),
which took a lot of time to calculate and was prone to calculation errors and double translation.
2 The video was of speakers from different countries, with heavy accents and high dictation difficulty, while the content was very professional
3 The original plan was to deliver the manuscript in batches, but in the middle of the project, there were problems such as resource transfer,
and the delivery time was tight.
4 The translator's workload was heavy and time was tight, so some spelling errors were inevitable.
Solution
1 As the project progressed, an online and offline project schedule and glossary were developed for the client's reference.
2 Marked some words and phrases that we really couldn't hear and returned them to the translator after the client confirmed them
to adjust the translation to improve efficiency.
3 Formulated and implement a batch delivery plan, so that we could give feedback while delivering
4 Communicated with the translator to proofread the dictation content after completion, and marked the uncertainties for the client
to confirm before updating the translation for submission,
so as to avoid some low-level mistakes and improve the efficiency of feedback.
Results
The client was satisfied with our high level of cooperation and efficient feedback on the improvement plan.
Significant savings in translation turnaround time due to standardization and automation of project submissions.
Strong project quality assurance, thanks to a proactive communication plan that alerted the team to any potential issues that needed attention.
