A translated string can look perfect in a spreadsheet and still break a game. Text that fits English UI boxes expands, overflows, or truncates in German or Russian. Fonts that render Latin characters fine suddenly spit out empty rectangles—known in the industry as “tofu”—when CJK or extended scripts appear. A quest instruction that reads cleanly out of context sends players down the wrong path or leaves them stuck. These are the everyday failures that surface only when native speakers load a real build and play it the way customers will.

Localization Quality Assurance (LQA) is the stage that catches them. After translation, editing, and proofreading, native-speaking testers who also know games sit with the integrated build. Then comes in-context testing. Native linguists play key sections, focusing first on high-risk areas: tutorials, menus, dialogue trees, and quest instructions. Other frequent issues include untranslated strings that slipped past extraction, cultural references that land poorly, inconsistent terminology across systems, and layout breaks caused by right-to-left scripts or vertical text. Bug reports that include severity, steps to reproduce, and suggested fixes speed resolution. Regression after each round confirms nothing new broke.

Where automation fits without replacing judgment

Technical checks scale well. Automated tools can run overnight across languages to flag overflow, missing translations, font rendering failures, placeholder problems, and basic layout breaks.
